This six-day National Fire Academy course addresses the basic skills needed to conduct fire investigations. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be prepared to make observations and gather information that will assist in identifying area(s) of origin, the probable cause of a fire, and assess the need for additional assistance. Subjects include, but are not limited to, behavior of fire, determining point of origin, accidental and incendiary fire cause determination, fire scene investigations, motives of arsonists, vehicle fires, legal aspects (court testimony) and handling/preservation of evidence.
