This 16-hour course meets DPSST requirements for: NFPA Public Information Officer -and- NFPA Fire Officer 1, Section 4.3 Community and Government Relations This is an ideal class for anyone who finds themself in front of the media and needs the experience and understanding of what the media is looking for, how media can be used, and understanding the media processes. During this course students will also develop media releases and see what it is like to work with the media during an event. Wanda Omdahl has worked for Albany Fire Department for 17 years as the primary PIO, speaking and working with all local media: radio, print, and TV. Ms. Omdahl is an instructor at the National Fire Academy, teaches Advanced PIO classes for EMI, and has been a speaker at numerous fire service events.
